Ureteral stones are kidney stones that form in one of the ureters, which link the kidney to the bladder. Pain, nausea, and vomiting are all possible symptoms. Ureteral stones can be broken up or removed using treatments. Adjustments in your diet and medications can help prevent them from recurring. A ureteral stone is an irregularly formed solid mass or crystal that has been lodged in one of your ureters (pronounced "yer-it-ters"). The ureters are two muscular tubes that transport urine (pee) from your kidneys to your bladder. Each kidney has one ureter. Ureteral stones can develop in either the left or right ureter. The ureters of most individuals are between 10 and 12 inches length. Stones can be found near the proximal (near the point of origin) or distal (far from the place of origin) end of your ureter. The ureter's proximal end connects to the renal pelvis. Each of your kidneys has a renal pelvis in the center that collects urine. Your ureter's distal end joins to your bladder.
